About OpenSourceList.org
The Purpose
This site is intended to list the best open source software, not to become a comprehensive list. It would be impossible to list all the open source software out there. Choosing the best software is highly subjective and there will always be different opinions. The best software can vary depending on specific needs, and there is not always a clear single winner. I hope to include several alternatives.
So why is there closed source in the list?
I know it seems odd to list closed source software here, but ignoring it will not make it go away. There are many closed source programs that any comparable open source software will be mesaured by. It is best to compare them honestly and openly. I want to help people find the best software for their needs, often that will be open source software, but not always.
What about the Ads?
I have recenly placed ads throughout the site. I did not create this site to make money, but it would be nice. I'll try to keep them reasonable in size and numbers.
Can I help?
Please do! You can submit new software to the list, or help code the PHP that runs the site. I created a sourceforge project, OpenSourceList.org OSS Directory Dev, for anyone who is willing to help code. I warn you, I'm not a professional programmer, so it could be ugly in there.
